Sea lions have a habit of climbing onto boats and docks. In some cases, groups of sea lions have covered boats so completely that owners couldn't use them.

STORY: A sea lion climbed aboard a ship in Argentina and wandered into the captain's quarters to climb into the captain's bed. The crew didn't realize their new passenger was there until they heard it snoring.

How It's Made

It all starts with a painting.

Every FLYN hat begins with an original painting created by Flyn. The paintings are the heart of what we do - they are where every color, shape and idea begins. We have the artwork turned into patches, and then we sew each patch onto the hats ourselves. What starts as an original painting becomes something you can wear.

Materials

  • 100% Merino wool
  • Certification: RWS Certified

Care

Most FLYN hats are best cleaned by hand.

Fill a sink or bowl with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.

Gently scrub dirty areas with a soft cloth or tooth brush.

Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Gently reshape the hat and let it air dry. If you want it to form to your head let it dry on the noggin.

Keep it out of the dryer and away from high heat.

Never put your FLYN hat in the washing machine or dryer. A little extra care will keep your hat looking great for years to come.

Unicorn Drifter

Behind the Design

Unicorn Drifter

This painting came with a small lesson in animal identification. I set out to paint a seal, but somewhere along the way I gave it ears. Once you paint ears on a seal, apparently you have a sea lion. The things we learn.

I also wanted to get the way the animal's weight would actually rest on the float, so I had Danny lie on a big horse-shaped float and pose like a sea lion while I studied how the body would settle into it. So now I have a very funny picture to share.
