Did you know?

Barred owls sound almost like they're saying "Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?" Their facial disks are sound collectors. The bowl-shaped feathers around an owl's face funnel sound toward its ears.

STORY: In Salem, Oregon, a barred owl became notorious for swooping down on joggers and snatching their hats right off their heads.

Behind the Design

Rainbow Gaia

Gaia is an owl from the Maine Center for Wildlife who completely captured my attention. She is a rescue and an ambassador animal helping people learn about and appreciate the wildlife around us. But honestly it was her eyes that got me first - those incredible bright yellow eyes. She's so beautiful and full of character that I found myself painting her again and again. Each painting became another way of seeing her striking eyes, feathers and quiet watchful presence. Gaia is one of those subjects I never seem to tire of painting. I love that her image can help share a little of her story with everyone who wears or brings home her design.
