Did you know?

What would you do if you saw a raccoon head pop through your pet door? They can open things that seem impossible. If there's food inside, they'll often keep experimenting until they figure it out.

STORY: A raccoon broke into a Virginia liquor store, destroyed 14 bottles, and apparently got drunk and passed out in the bathroom. That's what you call a trashed panda!

The Beer Bandit is FLYN's most wanted: a raccoon caught red-pawed with a case of PBR, painted on a scrap of shipping board that Flyn's mother saved from a furniture delivery. He's been getting away with it ever since.

Here it's a FLYN patch on our most popular beanie: a soft acrylic knit with an adjustable cuff, in more colors than we can count. Patched by hand in our Westbrook, Maine studio.

The Beer Bandit is FLYN's most wanted: a raccoon caught red-pawed with a case of PBR, painted on a scrap of shipping board that Flyn's mother saved from a furniture delivery. He's been getting away with it ever since.

Our most popular hat for a reason! With so many colors and so many options, there's a beanie for everyone. Comfortable, easy to wear, and finished with a FLYN patch, it's the perfect everyday hat.

  • Adjustable cuff, shown as 3"

How It's Made

It all starts with a painting.

Every FLYN hat begins with an original painting created by Flyn. The paintings are the heart of what we do - they are where every color, shape and idea begins. We have the artwork turned into patches, and then we sew each patch onto the hats ourselves. What starts as an original painting becomes something you can wear.

Materials

  • 100% acrylic
  • Heather Grey: 62/38 acrylic/polyester
  • All other heather colors: 50/50 acrylic/polyester

Care

Most FLYN hats are best cleaned by hand.

Fill a sink or bowl with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.

Gently scrub dirty areas with a soft cloth or tooth brush.

Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Gently reshape the hat and let it air dry. If you want it to form to your head let it dry on the noggin.

Keep it out of the dryer and away from high heat.

Never put your FLYN hat in the washing machine or dryer. A little extra care will keep your hat looking great for years to come.

Beer Bandit

Behind the Design

Beer Bandit

The Beer Bandit is one of my favorite paintings and, without question, one of the most iconic images in the FLYN catalog. It's a mischievous raccoon caught in the act after getting into a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon, painted on a piece of shipping board that my mother saved from a furniture delivery. On the painting the words Assam Green are printed across the top from the original packaging adding to the wonderfully strange story of the piece.

I painted the Beer Bandit quite a while ago but it has become one of the most recognizable and beloved images in the entire FLYN catalog. There's something about that raccoon - his expression, his joy and the ridiculousness of the whole situation that people just connect with.
