Collection: Permanent Camo Paint

Permanent Camo Paint started with a piece of hunting signage that I found.

I understand that hunting is a natural part of life for many people and I'm not trying to make a painting about whether someone should or shouldn't hunt. What always bothered me is what happens afterward - the photographs of the kill, the bragging, the way the animal can become a trophy or an accomplishment.

To me that feels completely wrong.

There was a life there. A beautiful animal that was alive, and then wasn't. I find something deeply disrespectful about turning that death into something to celebrate and display.

So I decided to turn the whole thing around.

In the painting the deer is taking advantage of the human brain power that normally gets used against him. He's camouflaged his antlers, he's wearing a bulletproof vest, and he's standing right in the middle of the hunting advertisement, surrounded by all of its bullet points.

He's essentially figured out the game.
