Hot Pink Honey Bear

The juxtaposition of a giant bear and a tiny bee is what makes this painting work for me. The bees have done all this work to build the honeycomb, and the bear is just standing there, licking it and enjoying the reward. The bear sees the bee coming for him, but he doesn't care. He's completely into the honey.

I really enjoyed working on this painting. The bear is such a big, simple form while the honeycomb was like painting a snake with its repeating pattern building the form.

The background is bright pink with its own patterning, which adds another layer to the composition. I learned a lesson with this painting: neon paint can burn out surprisingly quickly when it's exposed to UV rays.
