Walrus Dreamin'

The walrus is one of those animals that, if you simply described it to someone, you wouldn't think it was real. An enormous body, giant tusks, whiskers, flippers and that face!

I got to see a walrus up close at the zoo in Quebec City, and it was magnificent. They're unbelievably massive, and seeing one in person made me understand even more why I've always been fascinated by them. I also love the photographs of walruses climbing onto boats and sometimes tipping them simply by deciding that's where they're going to rest.

For the painting, I added Swedish Fish in the background, bringing in some of that quirky, slightly surreal 60s and Beatles era influence.
