Collection: The Discoverer

A goat balancing on a coffee can with all four hooves together, surrounded by the gestation of a coffee plant. The goat looks straight at you with the unmistakable goat expression - I'm busy here, what do you want?

This piece is painted in acrylic on birch plywood, the natural wood is left exposed throughout the background giving the painting a simple clean look.

There's a story that coffee was discovered when goats ate the beans and became unusually energetic, prompting the shepherds to try the beans themselves. Whether or not the story is exactly true, I love the idea behind it - an animal discovering something for itself and, in the process, bringing something new into the human world.
