Late Night Snack

Late Night Snack is a painting of a raccoon reaching into a bag of Smartfood popcorn against a black background.

I painted this one a while ago, and what I really like about it is its action. I love painting raccoons' hands, and there's something about the way this one is reaching into the bag while looking directly at you that makes the painting work.

The popcorn was especially fun to paint. Each piece has its own shape almost like a little flower or snowflake - and no two pieces are exactly alike. Gave me the chance to really play with all those small irregular forms against the simple black background.

It's a pretty straightforward painting. A raccoon, a bag of popcorn, and a very determined hand reaching in.
